Who I Am
I am Karen Lynn Chlup, Disability Support Coach, and I know first-hand the struggles of living with a disability. I was born in perfect health, but when I was a baby a rare adverse reaction to a DPT shot put me into a coma. At 18 months, I was diagnosed with left side hemiplegia, a kind of cerebral palsy that causes paralysis on one side of the body. With that diagnosis came physical challenges, a learning disability—and worst of all—people saying, “You can’t.”
Karen’s Mission
My mission is simple: to empower every person with a disability to feel seen, valued, capable and unstoppable.
Originating from a long-time desire and need to encourage, comfort, cheer, and motivate, Whispers of Hope is the place where Karen shares her inspiring life story with the disabled community and with the entire world.
Founder of Whispers of Hope:
Against all odds, Karen founded the Whispers of Hope website to show what people with cerebral palsy could accomplish. Her mission was and is simple: to empower every person with a disability to feel seen, valued, capable, and unstoppable. Her website is the place where Karen Lynn-Chlup shares her life story from her heart to encourage and give every person who reaches out to her the knowledge and confidence to motivate themselves to accomplish what they thought impossible.
Karen’s Journey:
From her earliest childhood, Karen believed in herself when no one else did.
Karen’s Voice:
From a young age, Karen developed her voice. Faced with limited options and misleading opinions, culturally disguised as advice, she had no choice but to assert herself when faced with adversity and limiting expectations. Karen refused to settle.
Karen’s Purpose:
As Karen came of age, she became fully aware that she was not like everyone else. She realized she needed to become all the things she wasn’t. So with grit and drive, one by one she took on her challenges.
Karen Blogger and Educator:
As a young child, Karen could not read or write. Left on her own, in an empty classroom with no guidance, she could not construct a sentence by herself. In response, she developed an unquenchable thirst for education. She set out to change her world. She did everything in her power to educate herself with the bit of special education she got for one year. Karen became knowledgeable and well-rounded. Since that time, she has written and published articles and books on many topics. She also won an award for “The Broken Hoof.”
Karen Story Teller:
Karen uses her storytelling to defend disability rights, and she challenges the status quo with integrity.
Karen Motivational Speaker:
Karen’s reason for becoming a motivational speaker was to create a desire in every person who heard her message to become their best self.
