The children are the hope for the future.
Tools to help our Children Grow

Establish good working relationships with other people in your circle and your child's life
Trust and follow your own instinct and judgments.

Let's list how we as parents can build on our children's strengths:

  • By exposing our children to the arts, in what ever form they are interested in
  • By taking them on trips
  • By developing their interest
  • By giving them access and direction so they can develop their own interest and voice

Let's list ways we can match and support their individual given abilities:

  • Through communication and asking our young questions, we can learn exactly what our children's interest and abilities are
  • Though undivided attention we can give our children and young the awareness of who they really are

Self Determination
How can we be part of helping our young be more self reliant and confident:

  • By letting them learn from their own experience's
  • By not coddling in excess
  • By letting them try and experience new things

How can we teach our young to feel good about themselves and their own abilities:

  • Praise them when they do something correct or right
  • Be forgiving if they do make a mistake
  • Give leeway and flexibility to make choices and have a voice

Self Esteem
How to help your child’s self esteem:

  • Be solution oriented
  • Allow children the right to make decisions
  • Offer alternative ways of handling a situation
  • Teach children the proper labels when communicating feelings.
  • Allow children the opportunity to repeat successful experiences.
  • Allow avenues of disagreement
  • Help children set realistic goals
  • Use a reward system to shape positive behaviors
  • Don't pave every road for children.

Communication
How to communicate with your children:

  • Listen to each others-communication is a two way street.
  • Don't attack when communicating your feelings.
  • Teach children to label feelings properly.
  • Use connective discussion whenever possible.
  • Remember that all behavior has a trigger
  • Be aware of nonverbal miss interpretations.
  • Use written communication whenever possible.
  • Try to use direct love as often as possible.
  • Make yourself as approachable as possible.

How Parents Can Help Their Children With Homework

1. Set up a homework schedule.

2. Rank assignments in order

3. Do not sit next to your child while he/she does homework

4. Check correct problems first

5. Never let homework drag all night

6. Discuss homework questions before your child reads the chapter.

7. Check small groups of math problems at a time

8. Place textbooks chapters on tape and allow them to follow along

9. Be aware of negative nonverbal messages during homework

10. Avoid finishing assignments for your child

11. Be aware of possible signs of more serious learning problems

12. Check homework assignments at the end of the night to make sure everything is done
