Karen's Book

. . . Advocacy for Special Needs Individuals . . .

Karen has been an advocate for disabled people ever since she was a young child. She has not only advocated for herself when there were no organizations available for disabled people, but she became a pioneer by leading the way in the disability rights movement. She spoke up, when no others thought of doing or taking such a bold step.

In 2002, she was elected to sit on the Executive Board of Protection and Advocacy Inc., and while sitting on their executive board she actively helped this organization, and worked as a team player to change existing laws by changing legislation in our government. Karen took a pro active, hands-on role in updating Protection & Advocacy Inc.’s vision and mission statement to include treating human beings with dignity and respect.

Karen has also taken it upon herself to advocate for all people with disabilities. She has taken a personal and active role in lending her support, knowledge, and expertise when asked. Karen continues to give unconditionally to others as she advocates and speaks out. She passionately writes letters for people on their behalf, and is an icon and pioneer in the movement. She helps others attain victories during IEP & IPP meetings across our nation. She has also made recommendations for specific services based on each child's capability.

More importantly, Karen has advocated on behalf of the child and parent, using her own influences and experience with governing agencies.

She vigorously continues to help people of all ages fight specific discriminating acts.  And, she helps win IEP and IPP cases for parents with children with special needs.
